There's nothing "pathetic" about it. Apple put a lot of effort into making technology that feels more 'natural' and less 'technical'. For a lot of people, that makes so much difference to their enjoyment of a product that it's the difference between actually using its features or not bothering.
Not me. Having well implemented and architected Win32 support on Linux would be great for Linux users and developers whether they know it or not. Also, wouldn't you like to use something like Powershell with .net objects and WMI over a purely texted based shell where you have to unreliably attempt to parse the output of things to do anything useful and emit command lines in absurd manners to attempt to control APIs? Microsoft has some great technology in areas typical Linux users would be interested in, its just there is so much stigma between the two crowds at this point that it seems neither side will give the other a fair evaluation.
I was hoping that this was going to be a teaser form next summers Top Gear episodes.

I live in the boonies. DSL is my only option. On windy days, I noticed that my DSL dropped and phone connection crackled. Traced the problem to a loose wire going up the utility pole outside my house. Called Verizon and gave them full details. After their tech was about to leave b/c he couldn't duplicate the problem, I went outside with him, had him connect his butt set and then I shook the wire on the pole which duplicated the problem. I left him to fix it. When I went out 2 hrs later, I saw his fix. He wrapped a good 20 feet of electrical tape around the wire on the pole so it wouldn't shake in the wind. That was 2+ years ago. Tape is still there.
