| That's not the point. The point was you paid somebody $7,000 to bring you a couple of bottles. |

But thankfully he lives in the civilised world.
They don't have to literally make a Linux distro, but there could be a bit of a potential advantage to establishing layers that could be developed as separate projects the way Linux does. Consider back when Windows lived over DOS; There were drawbacks, but DOS could be updated without altering the GUI, and that has to make the overall project smaller. Imagine if the newer Windows7 kernel could have been bolted in underneath XP's existing interface, it would have saved them money and development time, as well as pushing upgrades to otherwise reluctant consumers. They already have IE and Media Player and other things as separate projects apart from the OS, they just need to add all the little things like notepad and mspaint to the list. Another layer of separation would let all the bundles of software be interchangeable and updated form a repository, similar to what Linux does, so that they wouldn't have to simultaneously make everything before a new release. In the end they could sell the base OS, and let everything else be fluid and updated across the internet.

ummm, I think it was a joke. And besides, they do mention it.?
I'm not complaining about it, but I can see why the nutjobs on the hard right would love it. A newcomer to our culture wins our trust based on a message of hope and change and promises of universal health care, and they turn out to be evil. Who'd a thunk. But then again we're talking about the same group of people who make up their minds on the legality of torture based on episodes of 24 so I'm not really surprised. |

"The government allows employers to provide health insurance to their employees on a tax-free basis, or the money comes out before it's taxed. Therefore, employees prefer to be compensated in the form of health insurance, rather than wages as money, because if they get money, they're going to have to pay taxes on it. So there's a built-in preference for insurance, and as a result, we have an over-utilization of insurance. People use insurance for things that they wouldn't ordinarily use insurance for."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6eIBvrMY5w

This would violate the 14th Amendment's Due Process clause, IF Internet Service Providers weren't private companies. Since they are, they can deny service to any customer for any reason. Kind of raises interesting questions as to whether or not broadband can be defined as a public utility - and if it isn't, that it maybe should be.I'm a capitalism-loving government-hating American, but the sheer number of methods private ISPs are finding to screw customers is kind of testing my tolerance for *****. When will we get past this phase in our country, and just be able to buy broadband cheaply with no strings attached? When will ISPs realize they can make a fortune just by making broadband faster, cheaper, and more accessible? When???Stop ***** with my Internet, goddammet. Seriously, I'm sick of this *****. |
